Business freight, fewer drops

DX van leasing

A delivery company that is a limited company or LLP leases a van from FleetMe on business contract hire over terms up to 12 months. Business-to-business freight work is weight-led rather than drop-led, so it is specified on payload and access rather than on parcel count. Individuals and sole traders take hire of up to 12 months. FleetMe is not connected to DX.

Is FleetMe part of DX?
FleetMe is a vehicle leasing company. We are not connected to, endorsed by or a supplier to DX, and we do not speak for them. Their vehicle requirements, rates and contract terms are theirs to set, so check those with DX directly.

Business-to-business delivery is a different job to a residential parcel round, and it wants a different van. Fewer stops, heavier and more awkward consignments, and destinations with loading bays, height barriers and booking-in times rather than front doors.

Weight-led work is specified differently

When the consignments are heavy, the binding limit is the plated payload and not the load volume, and the two pull in opposite directions as the vehicle gets bigger. A large panel van carries more weight than a Luton of the same gross weight, because the Luton spends a large part of its allowance on the box body before anything is loaded. If your typical day is dense freight rather than bulky items, the answer is usually the biggest panel van inside 3.5 tonnes rather than a body conversion. Where the load genuinely needs a tail lift, that lift comes out of the payload too, so check the arithmetic before the order, not after.

Access, height barriers and where the vehicle actually goes

Commercial destinations impose constraints that residential rounds never do. Multi-storey and yard barriers set a hard height limit; some sites require a tail lift or a pump truck rather than a pair of hands; others have booking-in windows that make a second trip expensive. A van that is perfect for the load and too tall for the barrier is the wrong van, and that is only discovered after delivery. Tell us where the vehicle has to get into, and the height and access constraints get factored into the recommendation rather than being your problem to solve later.

Lower mileage, harder use, and what that means for term

Freight work often covers less annual distance than a parcel round while working the vehicle harder per mile: heavier loads, more loading and unloading, more strain on the suspension and the load floor. So low mileage does not by itself make a longer term the safe choice, and it can point the other way. We will price the term against how the van is used and not just against the odometer projection, and we itemise the maintenance element separately so you can see what covering that wear actually costs.

What underwriting looks at

A lease of up to 12 months is a longer commitment than a short-term hire, and underwriting looks at the business, its directors and whether the monthly rental is comfortably affordable, not at the round you have been offered. A courier company with a clean payment record behind it gets the most straightforward answer. None of that is a promise of approval, and we will tell you quickly if we cannot help.

The vans we supply for this work

Small, medium and large. Which one fits depends on the round (drop density, parcel size and where you are loading) and that is a conversation, not a filter. Every figure is read from our rate sheet.

Prices are guide figures ex VAT, pictures are illustrations, and nothing here is stock standing on a forecourt. What that means →

How to read these listings

Prices: Monthly rentals shown are guide prices and exclude VAT unless labelled otherwise. They are indicative “from” figures quoted against a 12-month term at the mileage allowance shown for the vehicle, and they move with the exact variant, the mileage, the initial rental and the outcome of underwriting. Last reviewed 1 September 2026. We confirm your actual monthly rental, and what it includes, in writing before anything is agreed.

Images: Vehicle images are computer-generated illustrations of a representative example, not photographs of the vehicle supplied. Exact trim, colour, body length, roof height and equipment vary by specification.

Availability: Listings show the vehicles we can supply, not stock held on site. Specific variants, trim levels, body conversions and delivery dates depend on factory lead times and availability at the time you order, and some vehicles are build-to-order. Nothing is reserved for your business until we confirm it in writing. If we cannot get the exact vehicle you have asked for, we will tell you and set out the closest alternative we can. Delivery is to business addresses in England and Wales, and we confirm the arrangements, the timing and any delivery cost on your quote.

Delivering as a self-employed driver?

You are covered. We supply sole traders too, over terms up to 12 months. You do not need to incorporate first and you do not need filed accounts.

Worth checking before you enquire: the allowance is 2,000 miles a month. Multi-drop rounds often run well past that, and mileage over the allowance is charged, so tell us your weekly mileage and we will be straight with you about whether it works.

What does the round need?

Vehicle type
Can you supply any make or model?

The vehicles on our stock list are the ones we hold a rate for, so they are the quickest to quote. Anything else we source to order, which takes longer and is priced individually, so ask and we will tell you what it costs. Every figure on this site is a guide price: availability and factory lead times move, and we confirm the exact vehicle, term, mileage and monthly rental in writing before anything is agreed. If we cannot get what you have asked for, we will say so.

Common questions

Is FleetMe connected to DX?

No. We are not connected to, endorsed by or a supplier to DX. We lease vans to delivery companies regardless of who they carry for, and their requirements are theirs to confirm with you.

Do I need a tail lift?

Only if the consignments genuinely need one, because it costs payload and money. If most deliveries are to sites with a loading bay or a forklift, you may not. Tell us the heaviest single item and where it has to go, and we will say honestly whether a lift earns its place on your vehicle.

Can a sole trader take a DX contract van on lease?

Not from us. Business contract hire is for limited companies and LLPs. As an individual or sole trader the product is vehicle hire of up to 12 months.

Is a Luton better than a large panel van for freight?

For bulky, light loads yes; for dense, heavy loads usually not. A Luton buys volume and spends payload, because the box body is heavy before you load it. Our Luton page sets the trade-off out in full, and the test is whether your typical load runs out of space or runs out of weight first.
