The middle ground

6 month van leasing

Six months is the middle of our range: long enough that the monthly rental settles down, short enough that you are not committed to a vehicle for a year. It is business contract hire on a fixed monthly rental.

Why 6 months specifically

Six months is the term most businesses land on when they are not sure. It covers a half-year of work, it puts a decision point in the diary rather than a commitment on the books, and by then you know whether the van is the right one. If a contract runs to a year, take the twelve and pay less each month.

When 6 months is the right call

When it is not

If the work is genuinely open-ended, six months means doing this again in six months. Twelve costs less per month and buys you the year.

Sole traders

Business contract hire is for limited companies and LLPs. A sole trader is an individual rather than a company, so the product is vehicle hire, the same vehicles, the same 6-month term, and we never call it leasing on that route. Private individuals hiring for personal use are not supplied.

What 6 months actually costs

A monthly rental is the wrong number to compare terms on, because a shorter agreement always costs more per month and less in total. Our cheapest van is the Toyota Proace City L1 Diesel L1 1.5D 100 Icon at £650 a month ex VAT on today's guide rate, on a 3+5 profile. That means £1,950 as the initial payment and 5 monthly payments after it, so £5,200 ex VAT in rentals across the agreement, against £9,100 if you took the full twelve.

The two numbers in a profile do not add up to the term, which is the part most people get wrong. The first is the initial payment as a multiple of the monthly rental; the second is how many monthly payments follow it, which on a 12-month term is always eleven. So a 3+5 is 8 rentals' worth over 6 months, not 6.

Guide figures at the rate published on the stock list, which is quoted on a twelve-month term. Shorter terms are priced on enquiry and the monthly figure will be higher, so treat the totals above as the floor rather than the quote. The initial rental and any deposit are on top — what you pay up front works that out in full.

How to read these listings

Prices: Monthly rentals shown are guide prices and exclude VAT unless labelled otherwise. They are indicative “from” figures quoted against a 12-month term at the mileage allowance shown for the vehicle, and they move with the exact variant, the mileage, the initial rental and the outcome of underwriting. Last reviewed 1 September 2026. We confirm your actual monthly rental, and what it includes, in writing before anything is agreed.

Images: Vehicle images are computer-generated illustrations of a representative example, not photographs of the vehicle supplied. Exact trim, colour, body length, roof height and equipment vary by specification.

Availability: Listings show the vehicles we can supply, not stock held on site. Specific variants, trim levels, body conversions and delivery dates depend on factory lead times and availability at the time you order, and some vehicles are build-to-order. Nothing is reserved for your business until we confirm it in writing. If we cannot get the exact vehicle you have asked for, we will tell you and set out the closest alternative we can. Delivery is to business addresses in England and Wales, and we confirm the arrangements, the timing and any delivery cost on your quote.

Questions

Can I lease a van for 6 months?

Six months is the middle of our range: long enough that the monthly rental settles down, short enough that you are not committed to a vehicle for a year. It is business contract hire on a fixed monthly rental. Limited companies and LLPs take business contract hire; sole traders take vehicle hire on the same vehicles and the same terms.

Is 6 months cheaper than a longer agreement?

Per month, no. The cost of putting a vehicle on the road is spread across however many payments there are, so a shorter agreement costs more each month, not less. What a shorter agreement buys you is the option to stop. Whether that is worth paying for depends on how certain you are about the next year.

Is this a rental?

No. It is a lease with a fixed monthly rental and an agreed annual mileage, and the agreement is with FleetMe. We are not a daily or weekly rental desk and there is no counter to walk up to. The shortest agreement we write is three months.

What happens at the end?

The vehicle comes back. There is nothing to settle and nothing to sell, provided it is within the agreed mileage and in fair condition for its age. If you want to carry on, that is a new agreement agreed on the day rather than an automatic rollover.

Every figure on this site is a guide price: availability and factory lead times move, and we confirm the exact vehicle, term, mileage and monthly rental in writing before anything is agreed. If we cannot get what you have asked for, we will say so.
