# Yodel van leasing

**A courier company that is a limited company or LLP leases a van from FleetMe on business contract hire over terms up to 12 months. Work that mixes small parcels with bulky items is decided by payload and load length rather than by the monthly rate. Self-employed drivers take hire of up to 12 months. FleetMe is not connected to Yodel.**

### i Is FleetMe part of Yodel?

A round that carries small packets one day and awkward, bulky items the next is harder to specify than either on its own. Buy for the small stuff and the large items will not fit; buy for the large items and you are running a half-empty van every day. The answer is usually payload arithmetic rather than a bigger van.

## Work out the payload before you choose the van

Payload is the plated gross vehicle weight minus what the vehicle actually weighs, and the figure in a brochure is for a bare van. Racking, a bulkhead, a full tank and the driver all come out of it before a single parcel is loaded. On mixed work that catches people out, because a day with a few heavy items can put a van over its limit while it still looks half empty. Overloading is an offence and it is the operator's problem, not the network's. Our van size and payload guide sets out the arithmetic. Do it before you commit to a term, not after.

## Load length usually decides it, not volume

For mixed parcel work the binding constraint is frequently the longest item rather than the total cubic metres. A van that can take a long item flat, with the doors closed, will handle a wider range of work than a taller one of the same nominal capacity. Check the load length between the wheel arches and behind the bulkhead, not the headline load volume, and check it against the most awkward thing you have had to carry in the past year rather than the average. That single measurement changes the vehicle choice more often than anything else on the specification sheet.

## Mixed rounds and the hand-back inspection

Bulky, irregular loads damage a load area: scuffed panels, a marked floor, dented door skins. Fair wear and tear allows for use, but the BVRLA standard is the reference point at collection and it is more specific than most people expect. A ply lining fitted at the start, agreed with us in writing, costs a fraction of making good a damaged load bay at the end. Photograph the vehicle when it arrives and again on the day it is collected, and read the inspection report against the standard rather than against your own sense of what seems reasonable.

### What underwriting looks at

A lease of up to 12 months is a longer commitment than a short-term hire, and underwriting looks at the business, its directors and whether the monthly rental is comfortably affordable, not at the round you have been offered. A courier company with a clean payment record behind it gets the most straightforward answer. None of that is a promise of approval, and we will tell you quickly if we cannot help.

## The vans we supply for this work

Small, medium and large. Which one fits depends on the round (drop density, parcel size and where you are loading) and that is a conversation, not a filter. Every figure is read from our rate sheet.

How to read these listings

Prices: Monthly rentals shown are **guide prices** and exclude VAT unless labelled otherwise. They are indicative from figures quoted against a **12-month term** at the mileage allowance shown for the vehicle, and they move with the exact variant, the mileage, the initial rental and the outcome of underwriting. Last reviewed 1 September 2026. We confirm your actual monthly rental, and what it includes, in writing before anything is agreed.

Images: Vehicle images are computer-generated illustrations of a representative example, not photographs of the vehicle supplied. Exact trim, colour, body length, roof height and equipment vary by specification.

Availability: Listings show the vehicles we can supply, not stock held on site. Specific variants, trim levels, body conversions and delivery dates depend on factory lead times and availability at the time you order, and some vehicles are build-to-order. Nothing is reserved for your business until we confirm it in writing. If we cannot get the exact vehicle you have asked for, we will tell you and set out the closest alternative we can. Delivery is to business addresses in England and Wales, and we confirm the arrangements, the timing and any delivery cost on your quote.

## Delivering as a self-employed driver?

You are covered. We supply **sole traders** too, over terms up to 12 months. You do not need to incorporate first and you do not need filed accounts.

Worth checking before you enquire: the allowance is **2,000 miles a month**. Multi-drop rounds often run well past that, and mileage over the allowance is charged, so tell us your weekly mileage and we will be straight with you about whether it works.

## Get a written quote

Tell us the round, the real annual mileage and how long you need the van for. We come back with a written quote, and we aim to do that the same working day. We confirm which agreement applies before anything is signed.

## Common questions

### Is FleetMe connected to Yodel?

No. We are not connected to, endorsed by or a supplier to Yodel. We lease vans to courier companies whoever they deliver for, and their requirements are theirs to confirm with you directly.

### What if I am self-employed rather than a limited company?

Business contract hire is for limited companies and LLPs. As a sole trader what we can supply is vehicle hire of up to 12 months, not a lease. Incorporating is what opens up the up to 12 month route.

### Can I have the van ply lined and racked?

Yes, with written agreement before it is fitted. It is an alteration to a vehicle you are hiring, so we confirm what is acceptable, you keep the original parts, and it comes out at the end. On mixed parcel work a lining usually pays for itself in avoided damage charges.

### How do I know which van size I actually need?

Tell us the heaviest load on a normal day, the longest single item, and the real annual mileage, and we will put two or three genuinely suitable options in front of you with the plated payload of each. If the van you have asked for will not do the job, we will say so.
